Pacers’ Roy Hibbert and Pistons’ Greg Monroe: latest wave of Georgetown centers



Georgetown is back. Well it’s really not the college basketball powerhouse it used to be back in the days of Patrick Ewing, Dikembe Mutumbo and Alonzo Mourning but it has produced two of the NBA’s best up-and-coming centers: the Detroit Pistons’ Greg Monroe and the Indiana Pacers’ Roy Hibbert.

Hibbert is already an All-Star and has been a playoff participant as a member of the Pacers for the past two seasons. While he isn’t the most consistent scorer, he has proven to be a reliable rebounder and has been their defensive anchor with his impressive shot-blocking ability.

Pacers’ Roy Hibbert at a crossroads in his career

With everything going in his favor and playing in the biggest game of his life, Indiana Pacers’ center Roy Hibbert did something that it is nearly impossible for a 7’2” big man to do: he disappeared.

The Pacers couldn’t have asked for a better script. They blew past the Orlando Magic who were without their best player, Dwight Howard but their reward was a meeting with the second-seeded Miami Heat.

Is Roy Hibbert finally closing the gap with Bynum, Howard?


Center Roy Hibbert has had a great season playing for the Indiana Pacers this year. He has career highs in scoring, rebounding and blocked shots for the season and even made the All-Star team but is he actually ready to be mentioned in the same breath as the leagues’ two best centers Dwight Howard and Andrew Bynum?
