Newark, NJ - After getting out to a huge lead in the first quarter, the Atlanta Hawks got to show off some of their new additions in what ended up being a 36-point blowout of the New Jersey Nets. Starters Jeff Teague and Marvin Williams set the pace early but it was the reserves who continued to pound it on the Nets and stretch the Hawks’ lead.
Atlanta’s most productive reserve was Vladimir Radmanovic who led Atlanta with 17 points, five assists and four steals while shooting three-of-five from behind the arc. Tracy McGrady added 12 points off the bench and Zaza Pachulia scored 13 points while grabbing a team-high 11 rebounds.
Other notable Hawks who made significant contributions from the bench were Willie Green, and Jannero Pargo. The Hawks are a much deeper team than they were last season which bodes well for them with this year’s compact schedule. They were even able to play Jerry Stackhouse and forward Ivan Johnson for a few minutes.
Even better is the fact that they still have Jason Collins available to come off the bench and Kirk Hinrich is still with the team. The Hawks did play a little sloppy at times but as this team continues to jell, they could be surprise contenders for the top spot in the Eastern Conference. That is if they can continue to play like they did tonight.
