Dallas Mavericks Quietly Reloading for Repeat Run

You may have heard about the Dallas Mavericks’ acquisition of disgruntled forward Lamar Odom from the Los Angeles Lakers but most of the news coming out of Dallas is about players who are leaving the 2011 NBA Champion Mavs for greener pastures.

The biggest name to defect so far has been center Tyson Chandler who will be wearing a Knicks jersey this season via a sign and trade with New York.

He isn’t the only Mav that will be elsewhere this season. Forward Caron Butler is also gone accepting an offer with the Los Angeles Clippers and many expect free-agent J.J. Barea to also leave in hopes of a big payday.

The Mavs haven’t wasted time reloading though. Along with trading for Odom, Dallas has signed Vince Carter who was just released by the Suns and they also signed free-agent Delonte West who was a member of the Boston Celtics last year.

They still have two roster spots to fill and are expected to fill one of those spots by signing a center to give them depth behind Brendan Haywood.

The Mavs are also on the short list of teams that Dwight Howard has said he would like to be traded to if the Orlando Magic decide to trade him so keep an eye out on that situation.

Dallas doesn’t really have many assets that Orlando would be interested in trading for but just imagining Howard and Dirk Nowitzki in the same lineup is scary.
